About the instructor

Focused on K–9: building the underlying logic, developing comprehension of word problems, and getting solution steps written properly.

Teaching K–9 math since 2018

Teaching at a professional learning centre from 2018, and in independent practice since 2023. The centre years meant seeing enough students to know how many different ways one concept can go wrong; going independent is what made it possible to work at each child’s own pace rather than a class schedule.

Education: Master's in Educational Psychology, University of Victoria

A Master’s in Educational Psychology from the University of Victoria. Which means the training is not in "mathematics" but in how children learn — formal grounding in child development and educational diagnosis, so the pace of a session is designed around a particular child’s temperament and learning profile (attention patterns, high sensitivity, an unusual way of thinking) rather than arrived at by trial and error.

Connecting three systems to how a child actually thinks

The BC K–9 curriculum, Singapore CPA modelling, and the step discipline of Hong Kong math, combined to turn complex ideas into concrete logic that matches how children reason. The materials are tools; deciding which one, and when, comes from the diagnosis of this child.

Focus

Underlying logic, comprehension of word problems, and disciplined written solutions. No drilling for volume, no solution templates to memorize.

Children who learn differently

Years of experience with children who work at their own rhythm — easily distracted, highly sensitive, or thinking in their own way. Start with an assessment and we can see whether it is a fit.

Start with an assessment, then decide

Every new student begins with a one-hour thinking and skills assessment. Afterwards you get a written picture of where the gap actually is, what pace your child needs, and how sessions should be scheduled. You decide from there — and if I am not the right fit, I will say so.

Sessions and communication in English, Mandarin, or Cantonese.
